Where to Eat in Port Clinton: Top Local Favorites
Exploring the Best Restaurants in Port Clinton, Ohio
If you’re visiting Port Clinton, Ohio, you’re probably planning to spend some time on the water, explore the charming downtown, or catch the ferry to Put-in-Bay. But let’s be honest—food is half the fun! On our latest trip, we made it our mission to discover the best restaurants in Port Clinton, and we weren’t disappointed. From fried perch to waterfront beach bars and classic chili dogs, there’s something here for every appetite. Let’s dig into the top local favorites!
Jolly Rogers: A Lake Erie Classic

Maybe the best perch dinner I’ve had this trip! Fresh, golden, and perfectly crispy—Jolly Rogers has a reputation, and it’s well-earned.

Jolly Rogers is located on the east side of Port Clinton, Ohio. It’s easy to miss if you’re not looking, but the smell of fried seafood will lead you right to it.

Plenty of indoor seating and outdoor views of Lake Erie make this a favorite for both locals and visitors. It’s casual, quick, and consistently great.
Bootleggers Waterfront Grille & Bar

The menu at Bootlegger’s has something for everyone—burgers, pasta, seafood, steaks, and salads. We loved the variety. They also have live music on selected days.

All this in a relaxed waterfront location. The view just adds to the experience. If you look out over the water to right of this photo, you can see the Monroe Street bridge in the distance. This is a double-leaf bascule bridge that takes Ohio State Route 163 across the Portage River here in Port Clinton.
J. Liu Restaurant at the Island House Hotel

J. Liu at the iconic Island House Hotel offers a beautiful dining venue. It’s a touch more upscale, perfect for a nice evening out.

We just missed the Lake Erie Walleye Festival here in Port Clinton, but plan to return next year! The Island House Hotel and the J. Liu restaurant are just to the left (west) of this giant walleye, which I could not resist including in this post!
Brick House

The Brick House offers a pub menu with great variety in a chill atmosphere. Their specialty is pizza, but the perch and walleye are also big favorites. The crowd was lively, and the service was fast.
McCarthy’s Restaurant & Pub

An awesome menu here at McCarthey’s Pub, filled with all the great Irish specialties you would hope to find—think shepherd’s pie, corned beef, and more.
The Bait House

The Bait House is the perfect spot to enjoy the harbor view. You can watch boats come and go while sipping something cold.

The Bait House bar reminds me of being in the Florida Keys. Open-air, laid-back, and loaded with charm.
Dock’s Beach House

Dock’s Beach House offers great dining on Lake Erie. It’s especially popular in the evenings when the sunset hits the water. Of the many restaurants in Port Clinton, Ohio, Dock’s provides maybe the best lakefront experience.

Relax before or after dinner on the beach and enjoy the breeze off the lake. This is a full-on lakefront experience.

Just east of Port Clinton is the landmark Netty’s Chili Dogs & Ice Cream! You can’t miss the orange and white striped awning.

An appetizer (well, for me at least) before we headed into Port Clinton for dinner later—this chili dog hit the spot and felt like a throwback to summer days gone by. Netty’s chili recipe is fantastic!

Liu and beachside vibes at Dock’s, you’ll never go hungry here. Bookmark this list for your next trip and make sure to come hungry!
